The Coolpad 2938 is 17 mm thick and weighs 110 grams. It, therefore, deviates from the latest trend of slim phones. However, overall looks of the device are good. A steel finish strip runs around the sides of the phone separating the glossy front from the rubber coated lower panel. The front panel has the 2.4-inch LCD screen and a clutter of keys towards the bottom. The screen is set in a bit. This prevents it from getting scratched. The left panel has the volume rocker and the microSD card slot. The short key for camera and audio recording is placed on the right. The power on/off key is placed on the top of the phone. When in active mode the red light makes the keys glow. Despite being a little thick the phone feels good to hold due to the rubber coated back panel.
The Coolpad 2938 has a touch interface, which is very responsive. The stylus is placed on the right corner of the bottom panel. It also supports handwriting recognition along with the traditional onscreen keyboard for typing messages. The phone we got for reviewing recognised most of the letters we tried to key in. Users must make sure to type only one letter at a time.
7 Lcd Touchscreen
The on-screen keyboard of the phone is easy to use even without the stylus. The shortcuts for music, messages, contacts, speed dial and number dialling are at the bottom of the homescreen. A tap on the homescreen takes users to the menu where a bar at the bottom categorises features under phone, PDA, multimedia and utilities.
The Coolpad 2938 supports both CDMA and GSM connections. The GSM SIM is tri-band, while for CDMA it supports 800 MHz. Like most dual SIM phones this device has two neatly labelled SIM card slots. Users can activate both connections at the same time. They can even choose the preferred SIM and select one or both to function at the same time. There are two separate calling keys for GSM and CDMA. As far as messages are concerned, all new SMSes are saved in the inbox automaticalling with 'c' or 'g' written before them for differentiating between CDMA and GSM. The same is done for sent messages.
The Coolpad 2938 has a music player and FM radio. The sound quality is good except when the audio is turned to full volume in both handsfree and loudspeaker modes. The device supports MP3/AAC/AMR/MIDI/MMF/WAV/3GP file formats. Connectivity options include Bluetooth and GPRS. For GSM, GPRS settings have to be downloaded manually. The phone has the call blacklist feature and the call and SMS filter.
The phone comes with a 1300 mAh Li-Polymer battery which gives a very good back-up. As per company's claim the phone gives a talktime of three hours to which the device stands true despite being a touchscreen. The phone runs even when the battery is removed and it is connected to a USB charger.
